Echo Lake Loop
(6 miles, 220 ft. climbing)
A short ride around Echo and Amherst Lakes on a tree shaded back country road and lightly traveled state highway. Bring a bathing suit and stop for a swim at Plymouth State Park. This route consists of two main legs connected by a shorter third leg. This ride can be increased to 30 miles when combined with an out-and-back from the October Country Inn.Start from Hawk Inn & Mountain Resort parking lot on Billings Road just off Route 100. Continue to follow Billings Road as it winds to the right where it soon turns to hard-packed dirt (0.2 miles). Enjoy a quiet ride on this winding shady, tree lined back road as it leisurely climbs above the Black River, opening on the right to Amherst Lake (1.0 miles), and then starts its decent (1.8 miles) with Echo Lake on the right. The hard packed dirt section ends (2.1 miles) just before the entrance to Plymouth State Park. Restrooms, and snack-bar are available during the Summer season. Continue the climb up the now paved road to the intersection with Tyson/Reading Road (2.6 miles).
Turn right and enjoy a brisk downhill ride that winds through a neighborhood of lake houses at the south end of Echo Lake until you soon come to the intersection with Route 100 (3.3 miles).
Turn right again and proceed north on Route 100, again passing Echo and Amherst lakes on your right. This section of state highway is lightly traveled with a small to medium shoulder. Turn right on Billings Road, and to the Hawk Inn and Mountain Resort parking lot (5.9 miles).
